Integral Keyhole Damascus Chefs Knife

$2,000.00

Description

Available for purchase is this one of a kind handmade chefs knife. There are several features that make this a really special knife, but the standout one to me is the integral keyhole bolster. This type of handle construction is quite tedious: involving sanding, filing, scraping, and fitting more times than one would care to keep count of. It often requires a full day or two just to get it fit up, (not including the time it takes to prepare the keyhole itself.)  Aside from the aesthetics, it also gives the knife a wonderful balance and overall great feel.

The 544 layer random pattern damascus steel was hand forged, starting from 2 billets, each consisting of 17 layers of 1084 and 15n20 high carbon steels. These 2 billets were each re-stacked, welded, and forged out to 272 layers and then combined to create the final 544 layer billet which would then be forged into the blade.

Some of the blades features are a thin convex grind, a distal taper, a sculpted integral keyhole bolster, and a coffee etched finish. The handle is sculpted from a high quality piece of stabilized golden acacia and is mechanically secured using a through- bolt that is threaded into the bolster and a stainless steel tang nut to put the handle under a small amount of compression. The handle has been museum fit to the bolster to accommodate for any small dimensional changes over time. This knife also exhibits a high level of chatoyance throughout the handle and the blade. Wether you’re a collector,  professional chef, or a humble home cook,  this one of a kind high performance piece is sure to stand out.
