Latin for “fire”, Ignis is the name given to this dagger. I don’t always give names to my work, but this one felt deserving of a title and given the fiery drive I had to make it as well as the aesthetics of the piece, the name seemed fitting.
Ignis is a smaller dagger in size, but packed with a lot of detail totaling almost 200 hrs of work. From the hand forged Damascus blade, to the engraving and texturing of the fittings, I feel that the vision I had for this piece was brought to fruition. This is my first completed attempt at an “art knife” and it has undoubtedly lit a fire in me to pursue more artistic ideas.
The blade is 304 layers of 1084/15n20 random pattern damascus steel that features a fuller on both sides of the blade, accompanied by fire blackened, brass brushed fittings that have been engraved and textured. The handle is a premium piece of amboyna burl that has been fluted and inlaid with twisted argentium silver wire. Thanks for looking.
