Enso, expectation, and intention

The state of mind of the artist in the moment of creation and the acceptance of imperfection as perfection is one of the many things that the Enso symbol signifies. I look to that symbol and it’s meanings whenever I’m faced with challenges, seeking inspiration, or just contemplating ideas.

Honestly, I was a bit nervous going into this project even though I’ve made similar knives. I was too in my head about it and worrying myself far too much almost to the point of exhaustion.

I almost forgot about the meaning behind the symbol I chose for my work. It was only after I let go of the worrying and accepted that the knife may not come out to meet the expectations I had that I was able to let it come together and get into the flow of the work. I suppose the lesson here is to not be paralyzed or to be a slave to your expectations. Trust in your body to carry out the minds intention.
