Available for purchase is this petty chefs knife featuring a 6″ (152.4mm) blade length and a contoured black palm and copper handle. The blade has been forged from W2 high carbon tool steel and differentially heat treated to produce a hard, sharp edge, and a tough flexible spine, as well as a visible hamon line demarcating the hard cutting edge from softer spine.
The handle is shaped from black palm which is a species of tree from tropical Asia and Africa. Black palm is neither a softwood nor a hardwood and falls into the category of monocots, which includes bamboo and grass. The handle has been contoured and heirloom fit to a textured copper spacer. This provides a very comfortable grip to a unique and nimble knife.
